Qimei Island

Touring Qimei as well as all of the archipelago's flat islands are best done on a scooter. Take a rental car from the inter-island ferry pier (rental charge is included in the price of the ferry ticket from Magong) and set out on the flat, calm plateau-top coastal road, where meandering goats outnumber cars. The Twin Hearts Stone Weir, formed of painstakingly placed stones, serves as Qimei's trademark symbol, leaving marine species stuck at low tide after inadvertently drifting in at high tide. This location's romanticism and picturesque beauty attract a continuous stream of soon-to-be newlyweds for wedding photo shoots.

The Tomb of the Seven Beauties – "Qimei" means "Seven Beauties" – is said to be erected around a well into which early Ming Dynasty damsels threw themselves as ne'er-do-well wako pirates sailed in, according to legend. Little Taiwan and Waiting for Husband Rock, both coastal rock formations that proved indubitably deserving of their names when viewed from the coastal-road observation platforms positioned clifftop far above the thundering surf, are among the other places to cross off any "I did Qimei" list.
