Mergui Archipelago
Mergui Archipelago, located in the southernmost portion of Myanmar, is home to over 800 quiet islands and some of Myanmar's best beaches. It is one of Myanmar's offbeat locations or hidden jewels, tucked away at the farthest end. If you want to venture off the beaten path, the archipelago should be on your list.
Because tourism is new to the islands, there are no built amenities. The majority of the islands are deserted, making them suitable for relaxing on the beaches. If you want to splurge on a vacation in one of the most private areas on the planet, there are a few opulent resorts to choose from.
Scuba diving and snorkeling are the most popular tourist activities in the Mergui Archipelago. You can see some of the best marine life, such as rows and rows of corals, colorful fish, whales, and turtles. Day visits to Mergui can be taken from Myeik.
Tafook Island, the archipelago's most frequented island, has some of Myanmar's nicest beaches. On their boat cruises, most tour operators cover the island in great detail. Kayak, swim and hike in the jungles along the shore. Small groups and even solitary tourists can join guided hikes.
How to get there: Fly into Kawthaung Airport and then take a day excursion or a liveaboard from Kawthaung to the Mergui Archipelago.
