National Polytechnic University of Armenia

The National Polytechnic University of Armenia is an Armenian technical university located in the capital city of Yerevan. It was founded in 1933 as the Karl Marx Institute of Polytechnic, and it offers training and research programs in a variety of technological and scientific subjects that are relevant to the engineering profession. In addition to its main campus in Yerevan, the institution also has branch campuses in Gyumri, Vanadzor, and Kapan, among other places. There are currently more than 8,000 students enrolled and more than 750 teaching members on staff.


Founded by the Soviet Union in 1933 as the Karl Marx Institute of Polytechnic, the university consists of two faculties with a total enrollment of 107 students. The university grew in tandem with the development of the industrial sector in the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic. By the 1980s, the institution had a total enrollment of approximately 25,000 students.


With the declaration of Armenian independence in 1991, the name of the institution was changed to the State Engineering University of Armenia. As a result of a decision by the Armenian government, the university was renamed the National Polytechnic University of Armenia in November 2014.
