Russian-Armenian University

Located in Yerevan, Armenia, the Russian-Armenian University (RAU) is an intergovernmental institution that is jointly administered by the Russian Federation and Armenia. It is Russian and Armenian that are used as the primary languages of instruction and communication at the university. At RAU, there are separate education sectors for Russian and Armenian students. Students receive two state diplomas upon graduation: one in Armenian and one in Russian.

As a result of an inter-state agreement signed between Armenia and the Russian Federation in 1997, the Russian-Armenian University was formed. Academician Levon Mkrtchyan, a Doctor of Philology, was appointed as the university's first Rector in 1999. Armen Darbinyan is the current rector of the university.

In February 1999, the first students were admitted to the programs in law, public and municipal administration, and journalism. Since then, the institution has continued to expand, incorporating new areas of teaching and research into its curriculum and facilities. Since 2002, the university has been establishing scientific institutes, institutions, and problem-solving groups to address a variety of problems. In the same year, RAU began offering a postgraduate degree program. It was completed in 2004 that the main building was rebuilt, and it was completed in 2009 when RAU opened its own sports complex. The Park of Gratitude, located on the university's grounds, was dedicated on October 15, 2004, as a symbol of the goodwill between Russia and Armenia. This particular day has been designated as RAU Day. The Russian Academy of Sciences was accredited by the Russian Federation's Ministry of Education and Science on April 29, 2005.
