  4. Located in Yerevan, Armenia, the Russian-Armenian University (RAU) is an intergovernmental institution that is jointly administered by the Russian Federation and Armenia.   7. The Mkhitar Heratsi Yerevan State Medical University (Yerevan State Medical University, YSMU) is an Armenian medical university located in the Armenian capital of Yerevan. It was founded in 1924 by Mkhitar Heratsi, a physician and educator. At a ceremony in Alexandropol on January 31, 1920, the People's University of Armenia was officially established in the presence of Prime Minister Alexander Khatisian and Minister of Culture and Public Education Nikol Aghbalian, in the first year of the First Republic of Armenia. Earlier that year, in October, the then-Minister of Education, Gevorg Ghazarian, made the decision to create a faculty of medicine within the university. But the idea was never carried out due to political factors beyond our control. Armenia gained independence as a republic in December 1920.

  8. The National Polytechnic University of Armenia is an Armenian technical university located in the capital city of Yerevan. It was founded in 1933 as the Karl Marx Institute of Polytechnic, and it offers training and research programs in a variety of technological and scientific subjects that are relevant to the engineering profession. National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia (NUACA) is a public university located in Yerevan. In 1921, the newly created Yerevan State University established a technical school, which graduated its first students in 1928. The Armenian Construction Institute was founded in July 1930 with prominent architect Mikayel Mazmanyan as its first director. By this time, the institute had departments of Architecture and Construction, Hydrology, and Chemical Engineering.


    On 11 July 1989, the Armenian SSR Council of Ministers created the Architectural/Construction Institute on the basis of related departments and chairs at the National Polytechnic University of Armenia. In 2000, the university was renamed Yerevan State University of Architecture and Construction. Its first rector, Arest Baglaryan, served from 1989 to 2006, when he was succeeded by Professor Hovhannes Tokmajyan.
