Nurse Betty (2000)
Nurse Betty is a 2000 American black comedy film directed by Neil LaBute. Renée Zellweger plays a small-town Kansas housewife-waitress who has a nervous breakdown after witnessing her husband's torture-murder and begins obsessively pursuing her favorite television soap opera character (Greg Kinnear) while in a state of fugue. Morgan Freeman and Chris Rock star as the hitmen who assassinated her husband and then pursued her to Los Angeles.
The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000. The film won the Best Screenplay Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Zellweger received the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for her performance. The movie was also a financial success.
