Unforgiven is a 1992 American Revisionist Western film written by David Webb Peoples and directed, produced, and starring Clint Eastwood in the title role. The film follows William Munny, an aged outlaw and serial killer who goes on one last task to find the men behind the hideous crime with the aid of his old partner Ned Logan and a young guy known as "The Schofield Kid".
Unforgiven earned nearly $159 million on a $14.4 million budget and received widespread critical acclaim, including praise for the performances, direction, editing, themes, and cinematography. After Cimarron (1931) and Dances with Wolves (1932), this was the third Western to win Best Picture (1990). The Library of Congress chose Unforgiven for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 2004 because it was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
