The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Christopher Nolan directed The Dark Knight Rises in 2012 and co-wrote the script with his brother Jonathan Nolan and the plot with David S. Goyer. It is the last episode in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy and the sequel to The Dark Knight Rises. It is based on the DC Comics character Batman (2008). Eight years after the Joker's reign of terror, Batman is forced to return to Gotham City with the assistance of the mysterious Catwoman to defend the city from the vicious guerilla terrorist Bane.

The film made more than $1 billion worldwide, making it the second Batman film to reach that milestone. It became the seventh-highest-grossing film of all time and the third-highest-grossing picture of 2012 at the time of its release, in addition to being Nolan's highest-grossing film. It was voted one of the top ten films of 2012 by the American Film Institute and is widely regarded as one of the best films of the decade.
