Ostseebad Ahrenshoop
This location, located between the Bodden waters and the sea, enchanted the first landscape painters over 125 years ago. Impressed by the peculiar light and the uniqueness of the terrain, some of them settled here and established an artist colony. Even today, the artists' town and its thatched buildings exude a distinct personality. A vast choice of sophisticated exhibitions and events, as well as outstanding hotels and restaurants, can be found here. The Bodden meadows, the forest, and well-designed cycle and hiking pathways welcome you to explore the distinctive area.
Painters such as Paul Müller-Kaempff and Oskar Frenzel once lived in Ahrenshoop, a municipality in the Vorpommern-Rügen region on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. Moved by the landscape, they established an artist community in 1889, which quickly became popular among other great artists of the time.
Today, Ahrenshoop is informally known as the "Artist Spa," and it has become a favorite destination for creatives and celebrities seeking inspiration (or merely a beautiful shoreline cottage). Sand dunes collide with salt marshes covered with samphire and sea asters, and small whitewashed guesthouses border the Ostsee's unspoilt coastline. In a nutshell, it's the ideal blend of rustic German charm, Danish simplicity, and rural glamour.
