Queen Elizabeth National Park
The Queen Elizabeth National Park spans the districts of Kasese, Bundibugyo, Rukungiri, Kamwenge, and Bushenyi in western Uganda with a surface area of 1978km2. It was established in the 1920s as Lake Edward and Lake George Game Reserves before being gazetted as Kazinga National Park by the British Colonial Government in 1952. The park was given the name Queen Elizabeth National Monarch in 1954.
Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the most frequented national parks in Uganda and one of the most popular tourist sites in Africa. The park, dubbed "medley of wonders" by locals, is a great habitat for big game, ten primate species, and over 600 bird species. The park offers breathtaking vistas of the Rwenzori Mountains, Kazinga Channel, a big amount of wetland, open grassland around Lake George, magnificent crater lakes, and much more. The equator is crossed by Queen Elizabeth National Park, which has monuments on both sides of the road that marks the exact place where it crosses latitude.
Queen Elizabeth National Park is known for its beautiful legacy and cultural history, in addition to its incredible fauna. Tourists are frequently given the opportunity to visit local communities with the assistance of local tour guides, and they are entertained with music and storytelling.
