Resident Evil: Revelations
Resident Evil: Revelations is a survival horror video game released in 2012 by Capcom for the Nintendo 3DS portable gaming device. The game features counter-terrorism agents Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield as they struggle to uncover the truth behind a bioterrorist group that wants to poison the Earth's seas with a virus. The game has a single-player mode in which the player must finish a number of episodes including puzzle solving and enemy defeat, as well as a multiplayer option in which players may battle their way through revised single-player settings.
By giving the player limited ammo, health, and movement speed, Revelations prioritizes survival, evasion, and exploration above fast-paced combat. It was intended to bring back the terror and substance of the Resident Evil roots while also attempting to update the gameplay. Outside of Japan, Revelations was also the first game to support the Nintendo 3DS Circle Pad Pro. The game was a moderate financial success and garnered generally favorable critical reviews, with acclaim for its eerie environment, sound design, and presentation. Its uneven gameplay between episodes drew criticism.
