Roma (2018)
Alfonso Cuarón produced, filmed, and co-edited Roma, a 2018 drama film he also wrote and directed. It chronicles the life of a live-in Mixteco maid who works for a middle-class family. Yalitza Aparicio and Marina de Tavira play the key roles in the film. It's a collaboration between Mexico and the United States on a global scale.
'Roma,' directed and written by Alfonso Cuaron, is the season's competition darling, with a slew of awards and critical accolades. Cleo, a house staff from Mexico City's Roma area, is the protagonist of the film. Cuaron weaves a heartfelt drama about the woman who shapes a generation using his childhood memories and experiences. The video also gives light on the social status of women in a male-dominated Mexican culture in the 1970s. 'Roma,' set against the backdrop of the political upheaval that shook the country in the 1970s, is one of the greatest black-and-white films in recent memory.
