Shinshu
The distillery is located in Miyada, a village in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, about 800 meters above sea level. It is the highest whisky distillery in Japan, named Shinshu. Founded in 1985 by Masataka Taketsuru and owned by Hombo Shuzo Co., Ltd., a Japanese manufacturer based in Kagoshima Prefecture on the island of Kyushu, Japan.
Between 2011 and 2014, Shinshu marked a huge success in the brand's single malt and single grain whiskies, featuring malt, charcoal smoke, and salted salt. Although it is now discontinued, Shinshu is still produced and sold by Hombo Shuzo, but in very small quantities and in rare cases.
