Sohar University

The seventh famous university in the top 10 best universities in Oman that Toplist would like to introduce to you is Sohar University. Sohar University was founded in 2001 as Oman's first private university. The Oman Ministry of Higher Education granted it degree awarding powers, as well as the authority to provide programs and courses that lead to academic awards upon successful completion.

Sohar University has received official approval from the Ministry of Higher Education, following the issuance of Ministry Decision No. 47/2001 dated 11/9/2001, to establish the Sultanate of Oman's first private university. It began as Sohar College of Applied Sciences before being formally approved as a university in a ceremony attended by His Highness Sayed Asaad bin Toriq.

Sohar University started out as the Sohar College for Applied Sciences, which opened in 1998. The University of Lincolnshire & Humberside was the college's main overseas partner at the time (UK). To ensure that its academic activities met international standards, Sohar University became affiliated with the University of Queensland (Australia), a member of Universitas 21, in 2001.

Most programs are taught in English, but some courses in the Faculty of Education and Arts are taught in Arabic. Almost all students spend one year in the General Foundations Program (GFP) to improve their English, math, and computer literacy skills before enrolling in a degree program offered by the faculties of Business, Computing and Information Technology, Engineering, Education and Art, and English & Language Studies. Law students are exempt from taking English classes at the GFP.
