Stranger (2017)
Stranger is a crime thriller drama television series from South Korea. It was conceived by Studio Dragon writer Lee Soo-yeon and premiered on tvN on June 10, 2017. It was produced by Signal Entertainment and IOK Media. The show has been renewed for a second season, which will begin on August 15, 2020.
The series was well-liked by both domestic and foreign audiences, and it garnered positive feedback for its tight narrative, compelling moments, and great acting. It was named one of the New York Times' Best TV Shows of 2017 and received multiple prizes, including the Grand Prize for Television at the Baeksang Arts Awards.
It revolves around Hwang Si Mok (Cho Seung Woo), a brilliant and unbiased prosecutor who lacks empathy and social skills. They investigate a murder case with Police Lieutenant Han Yeo Jin (Bae Doona), which leads them to a corruption conspiracy involving the Prosecutor's office and a private corporation. With its twists and turns, this narrative keeps you wondering until the very end. It's nearly hard to discern who is telling the truth and who is lying. It ventures into ethically murky and grey regions, adding fascinating depths to the villains and protagonists while also instilling a feeling of reality in these characters. It's little surprise that the New York Times named this drama one of the "Best TV Shows of 2017."
