The Bruges Ice Sculpture Festival
Thousands of tourists go to Bruges every winter for the sculpture festival, which features unusual and amusing ice and snow sculptures.
The Bruges Ice Sculpture Festival will take place in the heart of Station Square, roughly a 5-minute walk from Bruges city center, from November to January next year. The event is inspired by a different theme each year and it is one of the most famous festivals in Belgium. For years, the theme has been influenced by the Harry Potter books, Disney characters, The Lord of the Rings...
Visitors will be surprised and impressed by the magnificent works of iconic Disney characters produced using a mix of light and sculpture. During each ice sculpture festival season, individuals often employ up to 300 tons of ice and nearly 400 tons of pure snow to service the creation of works of art.
The sculptures are extremely intricate and gorgeous. You may even climb an ice castle, which will be followed by an ice slide back to the earth. You can have a drink at the Ice Bar if you're thirsty. Wear warm clothing because it is chilly inside (plus or minus 6 degrees). Because The Bruges Ice Sculpture Festival is held on the Place de la Gare, it is conveniently accessible (think of the train). Adult tickets cost 15€ (groups, children, and other discounts are available). It is free for children under the age of three).
You may visit the Christmas Market as part of your visit. It is not large, yet it is extremely intimate in Bruges. On the Market Square, directly across from the town hall, there is an ice rink. On the Simon Stevin square, there is also a smaller market. The aromas of hot chocolate and food are intoxicating. The Christmas markets will remain open until the 31st of December.
