The Crying Game (1992)

The Crying Game is a 1992 thriller film written and directed by Neil Jordan, produced by Stephen Woolley, and starring Stephen Rea, Miranda Richardson, Jaye Davidson, Adrian Dunbar, Ralph Brown, and Forest Whitaker. The film explores themes of race, sex, nationality, and sexuality against the backdrop of the Troubles in Northern Ireland.


It's best if you don't know anything about this movie. The film revolves around Fergus, an Irish Republican Army member, who strikes up a rapport with an IRA captive, a black British soldier Jody, oblivious of the crazy trip he is about to go on. Jaye Davidson, Forrest Whitaker, and Stephen Rea all provide excellent performances. The Crying Game is a superbly written and executed psychological thriller directed by Neil Jordan that presents a unique exploration of identity, betrayal, love, and atonement.
