The Danish Girl (2015)
Tom Hooper's 'The Danish Girl,' based on David Ebershoff's 2000 novel of the same name, has great performances by Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander. It follows Gerda Wegener, a portrait artist who asks her artist husband to stand in for a lady model in one of her paintings. When this deed inspires Gerda's husband to embark on a voyage of self-discovery, things take an unforeseen turn.
Lili is a character that many people can identify with since it allows the audience to follow her on her journey of enlightenment in order to fully comprehend the gender dysphoria and other challenges she must confront as a result of the shift in her life. The character of Lili, based on a true tale of a Danish painter, captures the intensity of becoming one of the first few persons to have recorded sex reassignment surgery in the twentieth century.
