The Getty Center
The Getty Center is a facility hosting the Getty Museum and other Getty Trust initiatives in Los Angeles, California. The $1.3 billion Center, which opened to the public on December 16, 1997, is noted for its architecture, gardens, and panoramic vistas of Los Angeles. A three-car, cable-pulled hovertrain people mover connects the Center to a visitors' parking facility at the bottom of the hill.
The Center, which is located in the Brentwood district of Los Angeles, is one of two J. Paul Getty Museum sites and attracts 1.8 million people each year. The Museum's Center branch houses pre-20th-century European paintings, drawings, illuminated manuscripts, sculpture, and decorative arts, as well as pictures from throughout the world dating from the 1830s to the present day. In addition, the Museum's collection at the Center contains outdoor sculptures on terraces and in gardens, as well as Robert Irwin's enormous Central Garden. The painting Irises by Vincent van Gogh is one of the paintings on show.
