The National WWII Museum
The National WWII Museum, originally known as the National D-Day Museum, is a military history museum situated on Andrew Higgins Drive between Camp Street and Magazine Street in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. The museum focuses on the United States' role in the Allied victory in World War II. It was founded in 2000 and later certified as America's official National WWII Museum by the US Congress in 2003. As part of the Smithsonian Institution's outreach program, the museum is a Smithsonian Institution-linked institution. The museum's mission statement stresses the American experience throughout WWII.
The museum has since opened the Solomon Victory Theater, the John E. Kushner Restoration Pavilion, the US Freedom Pavilion: The Boeing Center, and the Campaigns of Courage pavilions, in addition to a second gallery exploring the amphibious invasions of the Pacific War in the original building, known as the Louisiana Memorial Pavilion. The Liberation Pavilion is scheduled to open in February 2022.
