The Mary Tyler Moore Show
The Mary Tyler Moore Show (often known simply as Mary Tyler Moore) is an American comedy developed by James L. Brooks and Allan Burns. Moore portrayed Mary Richards, an unmarried, self-sufficient lady who works as an associate producer for the fictional WJM news station in Minneapolis.
The Mary Tyler Moore Show was a pioneering series in the age of second-wave feminism because it featured a primary female character who was neither married nor dependent on a man, which was a rarity on American television in the 1970s. During its initial run, it gained sustained critical acclaim and great viewership, collecting twenty-nine Primetime Emmy Awards, including three consecutive years of Outstanding Comedy Series (1975–1977); Moore won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series three times.
