The Mitchells vs. The Machines

The Mitchells vs. the Machines is a computer-animated science-fiction comedy film that released in 2021. Mike Rianda directed the film, which was co-directed by Jeff Rowe and written by Rianda and Rowe. The film follows the dysfunctional Mitchell family as they go on a road journey to defend Earth from a global robot rebellion.

Sony Pictures Releasing had planned to release the film in theaters in 2020 under the title Connected, however owing to the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on movie theaters, Sony sold the major distribution rights to Netflix. The Mitchells vs. the Machines, renamed after Rianda and Rowe, was screened in select cinemas on April 23, 2021, before being published on Netflix a week later. The film was praised for its animation, voice acting, action scenes, themes, humor, and LGBT representation, among other things.
