Tin Can Island
Tin Can Island, located in Apapa, Lagos, is home to one of Nigeria's main ports. It's where you'll find the roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) ports that connect Snake Island to Tomaro. The construction of Tin Can Island Port began in 1976 and was completed in 1977. The Nigerian Ports Authority took over operation of the port in 1991. In 1977, the Roro Terminal became part of the larger Tin Can Island Port. After Apapa Port, Tin Can Island Port is Nigeria's second busiest port.
Wheat, maize, and malt are handled at the terminal, which can receive up to 4000 metric tonnes of grain each day. The port can accommodate ships weighing up to 30,000 tonnes. On-site grain bagging is also available.
As you cross the island, you may encounter high traffic due to the vast number of trucks leaving the island to carry items such as petroleum and imported goods to other parts of Nigeria. Various manufacturers, particularly milling companies, are also located on the island.
