Universidad de Lima
The University of Lima (Spanish: Universidad de Lima) is a private, non-profit university in Lima, Peru. It was founded in 1962 and is regarded as one of Peru's most prestigious and well-known universities. The decision to establish the University of Lima was made in the early 1960s by a group of university professors, along with representatives from commerce and industry, who formed the Civil Association PRODIES (Promotion of Industrial Development through Higher Education). They finally got it started after two years of hard work. It officially began operations on April 25, 1962. In the beginning, there were only 120 students on a small campus in the Jesús María District. Due to the university's rapid growth, a campus in the Monterrico area of Surco was established to meet the university's space requirements.
The University of Lima now has over 20,000 students, 13 majors, a postgraduate school, a general studies program, and a scientific research institute, as well as many services for students, faculty, and the community at large.
