Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge

One of the Best Places to Visit in Oklahoma, the gloriously wild Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is located just to the north of Lawton and spans a sizable portion of southwest Oklahoma. It was established in 1901 and protects several kinds of flora and wildlife as well as various landscapes.

It is quite mountainous, with steep gorges, broad valleys, flower-filled meadows, and woodlands all present. 13 man-made lakes, as well as numerous beautiful hiking trails and rock climbing routes, are scattered throughout its boundaries.

Due to the breathtaking splendor on display, it is a wonderful spot to go camping and fishing, with fantastic opportunities for wildlife and bird watching. More over half of the park is an undeveloped wildlife refuge, even though most of it is accessible to the general public. Visitors can see elks, armadillos, otters, and the magnificent bison, now numbering more than 650, on guided tours.
