  1. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is a 2019 action role-playing video game for the Nintendo Switch developed by Koei Tecmo's Team Ninja and published by Nintendo. It is the third installment in the Marvel: Ultimate Alliance series, following 2006's Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and 2009's Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, and the first Marvel game published by Nintendo without the involvement of Activision (due to the latter's Marvel publishing license expiring in 2014 and 2016). The game follows a new team of superheroes as they band together to save the universe from Thanos and the eponymous Black Order, who have launched a search for the six Infinity Stones.

When it was released, the game received mixed reviews from critics, who generally enjoyed the gameplay and storyline but were disappointed that it did not improve significantly on its predecessors. It's a very faithful sequel that mines the vast roster of comic-book characters while also including plenty of nods to the more modern Marvel Cinematic Universe. While it doesn't do anything particularly innovative or noteworthy, it embraces the brainless fun of its brawler combat with zeal, and it's at its best when played with a team of player-controlled supers.

  2. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a turn-based strategy adventure game for the Nintendo Switch video game console developed by Ubisoft Milan and published by Ubisoft and Nintendo. The game is a collaboration between Nintendo's Mario and Ubisoft's Raving Rabbids series. The story of Kingdom Battle follows Mario, his friends, and a group of Rabbids as they try to save the Mushroom Kingdom from invading Rabbids who have accidentally misused a powerful invention and are wreaking havoc.

Ubisoft Milan creative director Davide Soliani and Ubisoft brand producer Xavier Manzanares created Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle in 2014. The design goals were to emphasize the dissonance of both franchises and to create a strategy game with distinct elements. As a result, its visual elements and animation were made to be casual and vibrant, and its music was composed by Grant Kirkhope, a well-known video game composer. Although the game received a negative reaction when it was first leaked, owing primarily to its use of the Rabbids franchise and weaponry, it was praised when it was officially announced at E3 2017. The game received mostly positive reviews, with praise for its characters and turn-based combat.

  3. Psyonix created and published Rocket League, a vehicular soccer video game. The game was first released in July 2015 for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4, with ports for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch following later. 505 Games began distributing a physical retail version for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in June 2016, with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment taking over those responsibilities by the end of 2017. macOS and Linux versions were also released in 2016, but support for their online services was discontinued in 2020. In September 2020, the game will become free to play.

Rocket League, which has been described as "soccer but with rocket-powered cars", has up to eight players assigned to each of the two teams, who use rocket-powered vehicles to hit a ball into their opponent's goal and score points over the course of a match. The game features single-player and multiplayer modes that can be played locally or online, as well as cross-platform play across all versions. Later updates to the game added the ability to modify core rules as well as new game modes based on ice hockey and basketball. Rocket League was praised for its gameplay improvements over Battle-Cars, as well as its graphics and overall presentation, though the game's physics engine received some criticism.

    Crawl

Crawl is an indie brawler game created by Australian developer Powerhoof. In local multiplayer, up to four players and bots advance through randomly generated dungeons, with one player as the hero and the others as spirits with traps and monsters in the environment to kill and thus replace the hero. The game was released as a Steam Early Access title for Microsoft Windows, OS X, and Linux in August 2014, followed by a full release for those platforms, as well as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, in April 2017, and a Nintendo Switch release on December 19, 2017.

Crawl is a cross-genre game for up to four offline players and bots that combines roguelike, bullet hell, and brawler elements. The main player advances as a human hero through randomly generated dungeons, while up to three other spirit players control the dungeon's enemies and traps in order to kill the main player. The spirit player who kills the human hero switches places with the next main character. As they progress through the dungeon, players gain experience in both the human hero and non-human spirit roles. The progress of each player's human hero's experience level, weapon, and stats is saved between turns. Once possessed by "monster spawners" and trapped in the active room, player spirits cannot leave the form until they die or kill the main character. The players and enemies grow progressively more powerful over the course of a match. The game ends when a human hero reaches experience level 10, enters a portal, and defeats a final boss whose limbs are controlled cooperatively by the other players. Typical matches last about 30 minutes.

  5. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a 2014 action puzzle video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii U. It is a spin-off of the Super Mario series which builds upon the isometric minigames starring Captain Toad from Super Mario 3D World. The Nintendo Switch port has sold over 1 million copies, making it one of the best-selling games on the system. A free update for the Nintendo Switch version was released on February 13, 2019, adding co-op multiplayer where another player controls a new purple Toad with white spots in the regular chapters alongside Toad/Toadette, and Toadette in the DLC Special Episode.

The game builds upon the "Adventures of Captain Toad" levels in Super Mario 3D World, where the basic gameplay model had first been introduced. In the game, players control Captain Toad, a Toad, and his companion Toadette, attempting to safely navigate through various obstacles and reach a gold star at the end of each level. The player can manipulate the camera to view levels and potentially reveal hidden areas containing bonus items. Both characters can be hit once before dying, but collecting mushrooms restores their health. As in Super Mario 3D World, Captain Toad can also walk and run, but cannot jump due to his heavy backpack. The game makes use of the Wii U GamePad's features, as the player can touch the screen to manipulate platforms, blow on the microphone to activate certain platforms, and use gyroscopic controls to aim turnips while riding mine carts.

  6. Dodge Roll's Enter the Gungeon is a bullet hell roguelike video game published by Devolver Digital. It was released worldwide on April 5, 2016, for Microsoft Windows, OS X, Linux, and PlayStation 4, on April 5, 2017, for Xbox One, on December 14, 2017, for Nintendo Switch, and on Stadia on December 22, 2020. The game follows four adventurers as they descend into the titular Gungeon (a dungeon themed around firearms) in search of a gun with the power to kill their past. The player is presented with procedurally generated levels in which they fight enemies and acquire new guns and items with unique abilities and effects as they progress through the game. There is a spin-off, Exit the Gungeon, which uses a platform game approach instead of the top-down dungeon crawler.

Enter the Gungeon is a fast-paced bullet-hell shooter that incorporates roguelike elements. The player is set to descend the Gungeon through multiple floors, each with a random number of rooms. While the rooms are pre-defined, the arrangement of rooms on a floor, the enemies that appear in the rooms, and the treasure are generated procedurally. Each room contains a different set of enemies, each with a different level of strength, endurance, and attack behavior, ranging from simple, straightforward shots to a complicated mixture of shots fired at the same time. To defeat enemies, the player must use guns, which can be found in chests, won by defeating bosses, or purchased from shops scattered throughout the Gungeon's floors. The game features over 300 different guns and items that can be combined to achieve more powerful effects called "Synergies" that were added in the "Advanced Gungeons & Draguns Update". At the end of each floor, a boss awaits the player, beating the boss granting the player a gun or item and currency to spend at shops and unlocking the next floor.

  7. Trine Enchanted Edition is a side-scrolling, action platform-puzzle video game developed by Frozenbyte and published by Nobilis. The game was originally released for Microsoft Windows in 2009 and has since been ported to Linux, OS X, and game consoles. The game takes place in a medieval fantasy setting and allows players to take control of three separate characters who can battle enemies and solve environmental puzzles. Trine uses Nvidia's PhysX physics engine to provide objects and characters with full physics interaction.

To complete levels, the player controls and switches between three different characters (a thief, a knight, and a wizard). Each character has their own energy and health meter. The player also has a single experience rating shared by all characters, which is increased by collecting green-colored bottles found throughout the levels. Treasure chests are also scattered throughout the levels, each containing a charm that grants the bearer new or improved abilities. The player can move these objects between characters, though some will only affect certain ones. Checkpoints, in the form of silver orbs on pedestals, are scattered throughout the levels. Upon crossing a checkpoint, any deceased characters are brought back to life, and any characters below a certain amount of health and energy are replenished up to that amount. Enemies primarily include walking skeletons, spiders, and bats, along with boss characters, like giant skeletons and other large creatures.

The game has over 120 levels, including forty remastered levels from Rayman Origins, which are unlocked by obtaining Lucky Tickets, which can also win additional Lums and Teensies.

The game continues Rayman Origins' gameplay style, with up to four players navigating various levels at the same time. Collecting Teensies grants access to new worlds, which can be played in any order once they become available. Along with Rayman, Globox, and the Teensies returning as playable characters, players can now control Barbara the Barbarian Princess, her sister, and their cousins once they are rescued from certain stages. Other new features include sections where players can launch projectile fists at enemies, as well as rhythm-based levels set to covers of songs like "Black Betty", "Eye of the Tiger", and "Woo-Hoo".
