    Doom

Doom is a first-person shooter video game released in 2016 by Bethesda Softworks and developed by id Software. It is the first significant entry in the Doom series since Doom 3 in 2004. Players assume the character of an unknown space marine known as the "Doom Slayer" as he confronts demonic forces from Hell released by the Union Aerospace Corporation within their Mars energy-mining plant. The gameplay returns to a quicker pace with more open-ended stages, more reminiscent of the original two games than Doom 3's slower survival horror style. It also includes environment navigation, character enhancements, and the ability to carry out "glory kills".

Doom garnered positive reviews from both critics and players. The single-player storyline, visuals, audio, and gameplay got widespread accolades, with critics praising the game for recapturing the essence of old Doom games and first-person shooters from the 1990s, but the multiplayer option received widespread criticism. Within a few weeks of its debut, it was the second best-selling video game in North America and the United Kingdom, and it sold over 500,000 copies for PCs. Doom Eternal, the sequel, was published in March 2020.

  2. Bulletstorm is a first-person shooter video game released in 2011 by Electronic Arts. It was developed by People Can Fly and Epic Games (EA). The game is notable for its method of awarding players with "skill points" for progressively imaginative kills. Bulletstorm lacks competitive multiplayer options, instead opting for cooperative online play and scoring assault games. Grayson Hunt, a space pirate, and former black operations commando is shot down on a war-torn planet while attempting to wreak revenge on General Sarrano, his former leader who duped him and his soldiers into committing war crimes and assassinating innocents.

The game earned excellent reviews from critics who commended its location, visuals, action, tempo, and gameplay upon its release in February 2011 for Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 but was panned for its plot, writing, and multiplayer modes. It sparked a lot of debate on its initial release due to its depiction of violence. Bulletstorm was a commercial flop for Epic Games and Electronic Arts, selling only one million units by 2013. Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition was published in April 2017 by Gearbox Publishing for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a Nintendo Switch version following in August 2019.

    Turok

Turok is a first-person shooter video game created by Propaganda Games and released in February 2008 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 by Disney Interactive Studios (under its Touchstone Games imprint). It was then ported to Microsoft Windows in April. The game is a revival of earlier Turok video games and is partially based on the comic book series of the same name.

Players take on the role of Native American space marine Joseph Turok, who is part of a crew dispatched to a distant planet to catch General Roland Kane, Turok's previous commanding officer and now a wanted war criminal. Turok finds that the planet is home to a variety of dinosaurs after crash landing, and he must fight both the predatory monsters and Kane's secret army on his mission to assassinate his old mentor. Critics had conflicting feelings about the game. Following the demise of Propaganda Games, a planned sequel to Turok was canceled.

It was published for Microsoft Windows and Xbox One on May 28, 2019. On May 7, 2020, the game's Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 ports were launched. The game centres around boarding and recovering supplies from spaceships in order to survive in the deadly Sargasso Nebula. Critics largely liked it, praising its comic-book graphic style, dark humor, and gameplay while criticizing its poor tale and replay value.

The game is centered on a randomly created structure in which the player accesses other ships, kills adversaries, and salvages resources to rebuild their own. If the player dies, he or she is replaced with a "rehydrated" prisoner. When a prisoner dies, the player loses all ammo, gasoline, and food, but retains weapon and gadget upgrades and mission progress.

  7. Overwatch is a team-based online game that is often played as a first-person shooter. The game has a variety of game types, most of them revolve around squad-based fighting between two opposing teams of six players each. Players choose one of over two dozen pre-made hero characters from one of three class types: Damage heroes, who deal the majority of the damage to attack or defend control points, Tank heroes, who can absorb a significant amount of damage, and Support heroes, who provide healing or other buffs to their teammates.

Each hero has a distinct skill set that defines their intrinsic characteristics such as health points and running speed, as well as their primary attacks, several active and passive skills, and an ultimate ability that can only be used after it has been charged by dealing damage to enemies and healing allies. Overwatch's design objective was to foster dynamic team compositions that react to the environment, so players can change their hero during a round. Because of the game's focus on individual characters and classes, some writers have referred to it as a "hero shooter".

Game modes include casual play, competitive ranked play, and support for esports contests such as Blizzard's Overwatch League. These modes are often focused on successively gaining possession of points on the map or escorting a payload between points on the map, with one side assaulting while the other defends. Other modes reserved for casual battles include solo and team deathmatch, capture-the-flag, and seasonal event-specific games. Users may now create their own game modes using a restricted set of scripting tools in more recent releases. Since the game's release, new characters and stages have been introduced on a regular basis, increasing the initial hero roster from 21 to 32 by April 2020.
