  10. A 2015 South Korean historical drama film called The Sound of a Flower is based on the life of Jin Chae-seon, who in 1867 became the first female pansori singer in Joseon. At a period when it was against the law for women to sing in public or act on stage, Jin puts her life in danger by dressing as a male. The connection between Jin and her pansori teacher Shin Jae-hyo is the main subject of the movie.


    Lee Jong-pil, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Kim Ah-young, directed the movie. For her part as Jin Chae-seon, Bae Suzy spent a year studying pansori.
