  1. The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat is one of the world's most stunning and opulent contemporary mosques. This magnificent landmark monument took six years to construct. The mosque's architecture is a fusion of Islamic, Middle Eastern, and Omani influences. The mosque houses the biggest chandelier in the world. The chandelier, which stands 14 meters tall and weighs 8,500 kg, is positioned in the center of the men's prayer hall. It has over 600,000 sparkling Swarovski crystals with 24-carat gold plating that took more than four years to create.

The Grand Mosque is adorned with lovely, colorful mosaic designs. There is no official count of the amount of stones utilized, but it is an incredible and spectacular sight. It is necessary to go around the corridors in order to view the handmade elements of the mosque. It certainly is a one-of-a-kind work of interior design.

The timbered panels inside the mosque echo the design of traditional Omani ceilings. Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is surrounded by lovely and well-kept gardens. Inside the surrounding walls of the mosque, there are more gardens and long magnificent walkways. It appears to be an excellent approach of the designer/architect to shield the mosque from the city's noise.

  2. The Royal Opera House is Oman's main venue for music, arts, and culture. This location promotes varied cultures and traditions via numerous events and culturally rich programming. It is attractively planned, with planted lush green gardens, a theatre, an auditorium, luxury restaurants, and cultural markets. Sultan Qaboos of Oman, a major fan of classical music and art, ordered the Royal Opera House to be completed in 2001. The house, which formally opened in 2011, serves as a center for excellence in the arts.

The Royal Opera House's rich aesthetics and furnishings will make you feel as if you have entered a luxury destination, as the ceilings and walls are ornamented with wood, gold, and glass that appears stylish and royal. Visitors are greeted with a sparkling, bright sequence of terraced towers during the day, but it is at night that the Opera House truly shines, with carefully positioned lighting illuminating the archways and towers. All of this produces a stunning contrast against the night sky, and the polished, reflecting marble courtyards that lead up to the structure add to the overall awe of the location.

The opera theatre hosts a wide range of productions, such as classic European operas, traditional plays, and symphonic nights. The structure is equally as impressive as the performances held within, and it is really one of the Sultanate's most breathtaking architectural achievements.

  3. Muttrah Corniche, sandwiched between the Gulf of Oman and balconied villas, was Oman's main port in the country's ancient maritime spice trade. Mutrah runs along a lovely corniche of latticed houses and mosques; at dusk, when the light casts shadows across the serrated crescent of mountains, it looks stunning, while footpaths, lighting, and fountains encourage an evening stroll or bike ride. The Corniche, which stretches over three kilometers, is one of the most attractive and quiet places to visit in Muscat.

At Mutrah Corniche, visitors may witness the dhow arrive at the beaches as the red twilight engulf the bay. The waterfront is surrounded with cafés and restaurants where you may savor delectable food while admiring the tranquil view of the sea. This Oman harbor has watchtowers, a fish market, and a dhow Harbor, and one border of the corniche is lined with different rocks.

You may participate in activities like as boat cruises or organize a family supper while visiting the corniche. Experience it on private or group trips that include round-trip transportation as well as highlights such as the Grand Mosque. Other ways to visit are on Muscat hop-on hop-off buses or multi-day trips that cover Oman’s wider highlights. Sunset dhow cruises that showcase Muttrah at sundown, when the setting sun bathes the corniche in gold, is another activity.

  4. Al Alam Palace, commonly known as Sultan's Palace and the Sultan Qaboos Palace, is one of Sultan Qaboos' six royal palaces in Muscat. It has a view of the Gulf of Oman. The house of the ruling king was erected in 1972 and has a 200-year history. The palace is famous for its ornate Islamic architecture and is bordered by lush green gardens and the Mutrah Harbour. The Al Alam Palace is the primary setting for formal occasions and is also often utilized to accommodate distinguished visitors.

The palace is the focal point of a lengthy pedestrian avenue bordered by manicured garden beds and opulent government buildings with polished white marble walls. You may get to the palace by walking down the attractively adorned street. The structure is flanked by four opulent gold and blue columns and is embellished with all the beautiful arches, tiles, and sculptures suitable for a sultan.

Although tourists are only permitted to view the palace from outside the walls, the architecture is definitely worth seeing. The palace, as well as the adjacent gardens and administrative buildings, are a notable example of modern Arabic style. As you approach the palace, look to the right to see remnants of the old city walls and watchtowers bordering the slope. Both the Al Jalali and Al Mirani forts, vestiges of the Portuguese conquest of Muscat in the 16th century, flank the palace on each side and can be seen from the street.

  5. Detailing the history of the Oman Peninsula from its very inception, the National Museum is a tourist attraction in Muscat for individuals interested in the country's history and heritage. If you only have time to see one museum during your tour to Muscat, this is the one and only museum you should go to. The museum is a cutting-edge facility that launched in 2016. It is an all-encompassing museum of Omani history, culture, and physical and intangible Omani culture. The structure itself is modern with very noticeable traditional Omani characteristics - in other words, you can discern Arab architectural style even if it is extremely modern.

The National Museum of Oman is well organized, containing a collection of genuine Omani artifacts as well as custom-made replicas of castles and notable locations. The museum's size is not overpowering, and everything can be enjoyed in two hours. The museum's interior is filled with minor touches, such as a gallery made to seem like the towers of Al-Hazm Castle.

The museum's galleries are divided by theme, such as Maritime History, People's History, Oman and the World, Renaissance, and so on. The museum also provides 43 entirely digitally immersive experiences that employ audio visual displays to tell historical stories. The museum also contains a modest gift store and an expensive version of the fusion Omani restaurant Bait Al-Luban, which should not be missed.

    Mutrah Souq

Mutrah Souq is one of the oldest markets in the Arab world. This antiquity may have enhanced its beauty, mystique, and attraction. In the 1960s, the market was a source of supply for Omanis, where they could acquire their needs for simpler life necessities. There were foreign commodities as well as indigenous products such as fruits, vegetables, textiles, and dates. Traditional fabrics, clothes, jewelry, incense, frankincense, pipes, ceramics, and craftwork are available at the souk. Visitors can buy Bedouin jewelry and apparel, as well as Khanjars and coffee pots as mementos.

Mutrah Souq features tiny winding alleyways covered in wood. With its maze of lanes and roadways lined with businesses that obscure the sun throughout the day, this souk is known as the Market of Darkness among local Omanis. This term refers to the area that stretches from the Prophet's Mosque to Khawr Bimbah. Because the crowded stalls and lanes do not allow the sun's rays to infiltrate through during the day and the shoppers need lamplights to see where they were going.

As if two titles were not enough for this souk, the east and west portions of Mutrah Souq, split by Khawr Bimbah, are also known as "the tiny market" and "the vast market," respectively. The Market of Darkness is the tiny market, while the wholesale market is the vast market.

  8. Qurum Beach, located on the outskirts of the Qurum Nature Reserve, extends four kilometers along the Muscat coastline, right in the center of the city. Its shallow seas and somewhat longer high tide duration make it a family-friendly destination. Away from the hustle and bustle of city life, the clear waters of the Gulf of Oman are ideal for regeneration and relaxation.

Qurum is a popular hangout for watersports enthusiasts and recreational swimmers alike. Joggers and strollers are frequently seen on the limitless lengths of golden white sand. The beach is also noted for having some of the greatest sunset views, making it a popular spot for evening strolls. A variety of food shacks and eateries line the dunes here, catering to exhausted visitors after a day of fun in the sun.

Due to its natural and aesthetic charms, Qurum Beach is comparable to virgin beaches and is ideal for all tourists! The Muscat coastline provides stunning views of the open sea as well as a variety of activities, allowing guests to relax and unwind after a long day's work.

  9. Wadi Bani Khalid is one of Oman's most well-known Wadis, famed for its enormous pools of emerald green water surrounded by tall palm trees. If you think that Wadi Bani Khalid is too touristy or that you aren’t sure if you want to make the drive, think again. It is a lovely oasis in the desert that combines "built up and touristic" with isolated and mysterious.

Wadi Bani Khalid offers free parking. After roughly 5 minutes of walking from the parking lot, you will arrive to the first and largest pool in Wadi Bani Khalid. This is the pool that you see in most Muscat vacation images, and it is also the most popular. It is also the biggest and deepest pool in Wadi Bani Khalid.

Wadi Bani Khalid is made up of two sections. The northern section is a leisure area with palm palms, beautiful lakes, and rock faces for picnics and swims, while the southern part (also known as Wadi Hayer) has a rugged terrain ideal for trekking and climbing. It even contains Miqil Cave, which is part of a cave network in the region that leads to a tiny waterfall.

If you wish to stroll along the wonderful walkways that go over the enormous pool/lake, turn left as soon as you reach the Wadi Bani Khalid property. You will be able to go from one side to the other without having to travel all the way around the pool area. Put your feet in the water for a free pedicure, and the fish will chew the dead skin away! It is an odd and ticklish sensation. When people pay money for fish spa treatments in the United States, Europe, and Asia, you can get it done for free in Oman, so you may as well take advantage.

  10. Bait Al Maqham is nestled among the plantations in the charming suburbs of the wilayat of Bawsher, adjacent to Muscat's main city. Surprisingly, this magnificent property surrounded by breathtaking views is tucked away amid the city's remaining sand dunes. Bait al Maqham, being the oldest building in the area, has become an essential pillar in the techniques and methods of Omani architecture blended with the military character, which gave it practical, architectural, and artistic importance at the time it was erected.

More than simply a house, it was created for defense, making it an ideal location to study the construction of old Omani fortifications and how they have aided the community's growth by providing security and safety.

Bait Al Maqham was built on an uneven space due to the slope of the structure in the southeast corner, which resulted in the irregular measurement of the four sides. It has three storeys in succession. The first floor consists of four rooms of irregular space that open with door entrances on a central hall with a 12.50 meter longitudinal length from the entry to the southern wall. It is covered from the top with a wooden ceiling based on three pointed arches supported on six rectangular trusses.

The second floor consists of the eastern and western arcades, each of which comprises two rooms that open with door entrances to the exposed middle courtyard, which is 12.40 meters long from north to south, while the third floor consists of one room in the southeastern corner, and the roof is surrounded by a one-meter-high stone fence topped by military merlons. The lone castle tower, which is 16.35 meters high, is located in the northwest corner, while the main entrance to the castle, which is one of the most well-known hollow entrances, is located in the middle of the northern façade.
