Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat is one of the world's most stunning and opulent contemporary mosques. This magnificent landmark monument took six years to construct. The mosque's architecture is a fusion of Islamic, Middle Eastern, and Omani influences. The mosque houses the biggest chandelier in the world. The chandelier, which stands 14 meters tall and weighs 8,500 kg, is positioned in the center of the men's prayer hall. It has over 600,000 sparkling Swarovski crystals with 24-carat gold plating that took more than four years to create.
The Grand Mosque is adorned with lovely, colorful mosaic designs. There is no official count of the amount of stones utilized, but it is an incredible and spectacular sight. It is necessary to go around the corridors in order to view the handmade elements of the mosque. It certainly is a one-of-a-kind work of interior design.
The timbered panels inside the mosque echo the design of traditional Omani ceilings. Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is surrounded by lovely and well-kept gardens. Inside the surrounding walls of the mosque, there are more gardens and long magnificent walkways. It appears to be an excellent approach of the designer/architect to shield the mosque from the city's noise.
