Al Alam Palace

Al Alam Palace, commonly known as Sultan's Palace and the Sultan Qaboos Palace, is one of Sultan Qaboos' six royal palaces in Muscat. It has a view of the Gulf of Oman. The house of the ruling king was erected in 1972 and has a 200-year history. The palace is famous for its ornate Islamic architecture and is bordered by lush green gardens and the Mutrah Harbour. The Al Alam Palace is the primary setting for formal occasions and is also often utilized to accommodate distinguished visitors.

The palace is the focal point of a lengthy pedestrian avenue bordered by manicured garden beds and opulent government buildings with polished white marble walls. You may get to the palace by walking down the attractively adorned street. The structure is flanked by four opulent gold and blue columns and is embellished with all the beautiful arches, tiles, and sculptures suitable for a sultan.

Although tourists are only permitted to view the palace from outside the walls, the architecture is definitely worth seeing. The palace, as well as the adjacent gardens and administrative buildings, are a notable example of modern Arabic style. As you approach the palace, look to the right to see remnants of the old city walls and watchtowers bordering the slope. Both the Al Jalali and Al Mirani forts, vestiges of the Portuguese conquest of Muscat in the 16th century, flank the palace on each side and can be seen from the street.
