American Community School of Abu Dhabi
A nonprofit institution with an American standards-based curriculum, the American Community School of Abu Dhabi serves about 1,200 students from over 80 countries in grades KG through 12. The school achieves excellence in each of four pillars: academics, the arts, athletics, and service learning—under the direction of mission, vision, and core values.
Elementary students at American Community School gain foundational knowledge and interests that enhance their love of learning through instruction centered around the school's four pillars: academics, athletics, the arts, and service learning. In addition to daily language instruction and a wide range of engaging "specials," students participate in critical subjects such as literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies.
Every elementary student attends daily Arabic classes, which are divided into proficiency-based groups. In addition, classes in physical education, music, dance and drama, library and innovation, art, and social-emotional learning are taken by the students. The PE curriculum includes swim instruction starting in Grade 1.
Every quarter, middle school students can enroll in one "Exploratory" course. A quarter's worth of short, inspiring, and non-graded exploration courses, or "exploratory classes," meet once a week for about twelve sessions.
Perseverance, creativity, teamwork, communication, reflection on learning, and decision-making are among the skills these courses help students develop. Students at the American Community School of Abu Dhabi are also given the chance to identify and pursue their passions and interests.
A demanding and well-rounded curriculum covering English, Social Studies, World Languages, Mathematics, Science, Creative Arts, and Physical Education/Health is completed by students in Grades 9 through 12. It is advised that students choose a course of study that best suits their skill level, interests them, satisfies diploma requirements, and advances their goals for career advancement or university admission.
Students in grades 11 and 12 have the option of enrolling in ACS High School courses, Advanced Placement (AP) courses, or the IB Diploma Programme. Enrollment in a minimum of seven credit-bearing courses is mandatory for students.
Students of all ages use the competition-sized, 25-meter, six-lane swimming pool at the extensive ACS sports facilities. The youngest students use the pool for both in-class swim instruction during Physical Education classes and after-school swim programs, in addition to competitive swim teams for Grades 4 through 12.
