Assassin's Creed Odyssey
Assassin's Creed Odyssey is an action role-playing video game released in 2018 by Ubisoft Quebec. It is the eleventh main chapter in the Assassin's Creed series and the sequel to Assassin's Creed Origins, which was released in 2017. The game, like its predecessor Assassin's Creed Origins, has a big open world and incorporates numerous aspects of the role-playing genre, with a focus on battle and exploration rather than stealth. Odyssey features naval action similar to earlier entries in the series. The setting of the game, while fictitious, is based on real-world events. It depicts the mythical account of the Peloponnesian War, which lasted from 431 to 422 BC.
Players take control of a Spartan mercenary who battles on both sides of the conflict in their quest to locate their family and destroy the enigmatic Cult of Kosmos. Odyssey also continues the story arc of Layla Hassan, a prominent character introduced in Origins who uses the Animus device to relive the mercenary's memories in order to discover a powerful item on behalf of the Assassin Brotherhood.
Odyssey was published on October 5, 2018, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It garnered mostly excellent reviews from critics, with acclaim for its gameplay, visuals, characters, role-playing features, and environment design, but it was chastised for its too ambitious pacing and inclusion of microtransactions. Odyssey was a commercial success, selling more than 10 million copies globally by March 2020.
