Audi

Audi AG is a German luxury automobile manufacturer located in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. Audi is a subsidiary of its parent business, the Volkswagen Group, which manufactures automobiles at nine factories across the world. The firm name is derived from the Latin translation of the founder's surname, August Horch. Horch, which means "listen" in German, is translated into Latin as Audi.

The four rings of the Audi emblem each reflect one of the four automotive firms that merged to become Audi's forefather business, Auto Union. The Audi tagline is "Vorsprung Durch Technik", which translates as "Being Ahead Through Technology." Audi, together with rival German marques BMW and Mercedes-Benz, is one of the world's best-selling luxury automotive brands. Their lineup is made up of extremely competent vehicles like the A4 sedan and Q7 SUV, which are so consistently good at all that they almost feel clinical. Audi R8 is one of the best handling cars on the road and is one of the most to buy.

Sales grew strongly during the 2000s and this continued into this decade. Audi saw record sales in May 2011 and produce vehicles in seven countries across the world. However, in 2015 Audi admitted that at least 2 million of their cars had been involved in the VW emissions scandal. The cars affected were the A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, TT, Q3, Q5. And the A6 Quattro, A7 Quattro, A8, and the A8L were further implicated. Despite this, Audi reported a sales increase.

Audi has continued to innovate, including diesel technology, aluminum bodywork, the "Multitronic" Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), and distinctive SUVs. This invention has contributed to a comeback in the American market as well as racing success, including seven world records.
