Gumpert (Apollo)
Apollo Automobil, formerly Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur, is a German sports vehicle manufacturer based in Denkendorf. Roland Gumpert, the founder of Gumpert in 2004, was previously the head of Audi Sport. Audi won 25 World Rally Championship rallies and four World Rally Championship championships while he was in charge.
The Apollo is powered by a 4,163 cc bi-turbo inter-cooled Audi V8 engine. The closed-deck light metal crankcase of the 90° V8 is lubricated by a dry sump. The cylinder heads are made of light metal and include five valves per cylinder, four overhead camshafts, VarioCam Direct variable valve timing on the intakes, and hydraulic valve clearance compensation. The double-flow exhaust system has four oxygen sensors to monitor the gas mixture as well as a three-way catalytic converter. An on-board diagnostic system, eight-coil electronic ignition, sequential multipoint fuel injection, and an electronic accelerator system are among the modern controls.
Gumpert was purchased in January 2016 by the Hong Kong consortium Ideal Team Venture, which also controls the De Tomaso trademark. The firm was renamed Apollo Automobil GmbH once the new owner took possession.
