Opel
Opel Vehicle GmbH, commonly abbreviated as Opel, is a German automobile manufacturer that has been a Stellantis subsidiary since January 16, 2021. From 1929 until 2017, it was owned by General Motors, and from 2017 to 2021, it was owned by the PSA Group, Stellantis' predecessor. In the United Kingdom, Opel automobiles are offered under the Vauxhall brand. Until 2020, several Opel cars were badge-engineered under the Holden name in Australia, and under the Buick, Saturn, and Cadillac brands in North America and China.
Adam Opel created a sewing machine factory in Rüsselsheim am Main in 1862, which became Opel. In 1886, the firm began producing bicycles, and in 1899, it created its first vehicle. Following its initial public offering in 1929, General Motors acquired a majority interest in Opel, followed by complete control in 1931, establishing American dominance of the German carmaker for over 90 years.
Opel has developed a new niche in the European automotive industry with the Ampera electric powertrain and has strengthened its pioneering role in modern mobility solutions. The VX220, one of Opel's famous vehicles, boasts great performance, exceptional handling, the best-looking car, and an approachable appearance on the road, making it a hit with everyone. Nobody forgot about the Opel GT, a little vehicle with great aesthetics that, despite its humble origins, is a lot of pleasure to drive.
