Bahir Dar University
Bahir Dar University is Ethiopia's fifth-best university. It was established by the amalgamation of two earlier higher education institutions, the Bahir Dar Polytechnic and the Bahir Dar Teachers' College.
The Bahir Dar Polytechnic Institute, which has now expanded into Technology and Textile institutes, was established in 1963 as a consequence of technological collaboration between the Soviet Union and the Imperial Government of Ethiopia. The institute was a national leader in technician production.
The Bahir Dar Teachers' College, formerly known as the Academy of Pedagogy, was established in 1972 as a result of a tripartite agreement between the Imperial Government of Ethiopia, UNESCO, and UNDP, and began operations the following year under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Fine Arts.
The ultimate purpose of the institution was to educate multifunctional primary education professionals capable of applying primary education to rural life and development. Its specific targets include teacher trainers, supervisors, educational leaders, adult education organizers, and community development agents.
