Jimma University
Jimma University was founded in the 1980s by the amalgamation of the Jimma Institute of Health Science and the Jimma College of Agriculture. Both universities were national leaders in their respective fields, and the merger allowed the two former specialty institutions to join to build a new, diverse, and development-oriented institution.
Throughout the 1990s, Ethiopians were determined to overcome the country's significant development challenges.
Such obstacles were experienced in all spheres of society and all locations. Given this, new institutions needed to be established in a way that would assist the country's growth. For the country's overall expansion, a well-conceived and adaptive higher education institutional development strategy was required.
Several new higher education institutions were constructed across the country, while other ones were upgraded and expanded. More than any other institution of higher learning in the country, Jimma University exhibits program development and upgrading.
Despite its location outside of the city, Jimma University has maintained an unequaled standard of education in the country. Jimma University has evolved into a hub of intellectual and academic activity, drawing thought leaders, inventors, educators, and leaders from all across the country.
Because of the outstanding quality of each academic department, Jimma University has consistently been named the top public university in the country.
