Barra da Lagoa
Barra da Lagoa is a small fishing village in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. The village is located at the mouth of a tidewater channel that flows into and out of the island's large lagoon, Lagoa da Conceiço. The channel is located at the end of a 14-kilometer stretch of beach that includes Praia Barra da Lagoa and Mozambique Beach. Barra da Lagoa is a good place for beginners to learn to surf because the swells are generally smaller and easier to navigate. This also means ideal conditions for those who want to simply body surf and enjoy the beach.
If you've never tried surfing before, take advantage of expert instruction at the beach's surf schools. Barra da Lagoa is a good place for beginner surfers because the waves are not as strong or as large as on other beaches. Families with young children frequently visit the beach because the water is usually calm. This backpacker-friendly enclave is peppered with brightly painted boats bobbing along the Canal da Barra. Herclio Luz International Airport (about 90 minutes' flight from Rio) is within an hour's drive of the beach. When the sunset colors come out, the pretty rock formations that line the path to the sea are a sight to behold. Prepare yourself for some breathtaking long beach walks.
