Barra Grande
Barra Grande is a peaceful village on the tip of the Peninsula of Mara in the state of Bahia. Due to its difficult access, this old fisherman village has managed to preserve its unique charm and environment. The village has the atmosphere of an old fishermen's village, a very relaxed lifestyle, and beautiful beaches. Bahia has gradually grown into a popular vacation destination for Brazilian families. Its sandy streets are lined with dozens of pousadas (guesthouses) and restaurants, which fill up with delightful chatter and smells as summer approaches. A direct air taxi flight from Salvador airport to Barra Grande takes 25 minutes.
The town is also a kitesurfing hotspot, with numerous professional competitions taking place on its beaches. Barra Grande's mysterious allure stems in part from its inaccessibility; the journey is time consuming but well worth the effort, and its remoteness ensures that it remains unspoiled by mass development. A beautiful beach to mention is Taips de Fora, which has natural rock pools that form at low tide.
