Bistro Ateneu
A new generation of young chefs is emerging in Bucharest, eager to promote Romanian cuisine and heirloom ingredients. Alexandru Dumitru (one of Romania's best chefs) of Bistro Ateneu is leading the charge. This tiny, homey restaurant, located near the neoclassical Athenaeum concert hall, emphasizes the farm-to-table idea.
The backdrop to outstanding modern renditions of traditional Romanian dishes is provided by a pleasant, attentive staff and colorful decor. Parsley soup, roasted bone marrow with horseradish crust, Danube zander, and slow-cooked Mangalitsa pork belly with polenta and truffle are just a few of the dishes on the menu. To top it off, there's a fantastic wine cellar.
