  1. A new generation of young chefs is emerging in Bucharest, eager to promote Romanian cuisine and heirloom ingredients. Alexandru Dumitru (one of Romania's best chefs) of Bistro Ateneu is leading the charge. This tiny, homey restaurant, located near the neoclassical Athenaeum concert hall, emphasizes the farm-to-table idea.

The backdrop to outstanding modern renditions of traditional Romanian dishes is provided by a pleasant, attentive staff and colorful decor. Parsley soup, roasted bone marrow with horseradish crust, Danube zander, and slow-cooked Mangalitsa pork belly with polenta and truffle are just a few of the dishes on the menu. To top it off, there's a fantastic wine cellar.

  2. This urban café is bathed in a comfortable, warm light from yellow ceiling lighting and huge glass walls, making it simple yet lovely. Baracca serves exceptional food at a fair price, utilizing the freshest products and fresh supplies, from breakfast and lunch to beautiful dinners or just a coffee drop-off. The modern kitchen vows to support a healthy lifestyle and a meal experience that nourishes both the body and the soul by taking care to retain the nutritional worth of the raw material.

Their love for cuisine is evident on every platter. Duck breast with figs, Wolf fish with brown butter seaweed, and lamb ribs with coconut milk and aromatic herbs are among the menu's highlights, as are its pizza and pasta dishes, which keep their customers coming back for more. Because the menu changes every six months, these lovers were outraged when the delectable mushroom crust chicken was removed from the menu. Baracca boasts a wide variety of delectable desserts from which to choose, but the town's famed Tiramisu is a must-try.

The wine list is pretty extensive with good prices in order to give it a preference over beer.

  3. The avant-garde style of the Arena Stadium sticks out among the old historic structures of Cluj. The cutting-edge culinary restaurant Fragment developed its sculptural identity out of a need to maximize space. The natural calm ambiance is enhanced by the huge windows, vegetable wall, and wooden block painting.

On the same leisurely tone, the kitchen implemented the slow cooking approach, which enhances flavor and tenderizes texture. Slow cooking, while already an international fad, is new to this town and is gaining popularity.

Some dishes, such as the well-liked Varlax, might take up to 48 hours to prepare. Chef Andrei Chelaru combines Romanian cuisine and local ingredients with his international knowledge to create a delectable symphony of innovative flavors.

    KAIAMO

When you walk into the new KAIAMO, you enter a world of symbolism and secret stories, all of which are embodied in the beautifully renovated wood rescued from demolished houses. The traditional mask on display at the entryway is a symbol (and logo) of perpetual change and progress, which is also the restaurant's driving force, fueled by a fear of mediocrity.

From every ornamental element to separating the salon into four zones, each with a view of the open kitchen, Radu Ionescu created everything as a tribute to Romania: the night zone or lounge (Moldova), day zone (Muntenia), bar zone (Translivania), and platform zone (Maramureș).

Chef's Corner, named after the proprietor, is a more private location for tasting the food, ideal for family dinners or creative parties. The cuisine is divided into four categories: land, sea, garden, and desserts. One meal that attracted our attention was burning heart, but you learn the names of the dishes and the wonders beyond them for yourself. And here's a taste of the desserts: white chocolate with jasmine and rose buds from a nearby monastery.

  5. If you have a bicycle, you can leave it on a narrow street in Brașov's old town, beside a small terrace in front of an old home. The atmosphere of Bistro de l’Arte, with its arched beige ceilings and red brick columns, invites you to take a break and enjoy a tasty piece of the arts while sitting down to a table of traditional Romanian food modernized.

Chef and owner Oana Coantă traveled around the country in search of buried treasures of hereditary recipes that deliver authentic flavors.

At Bistro de l’Arte, simple recipes are slowly cooked over a flame of passion for good and wholesome food, using largely materials from small entrepreneurs' gardens. Traditional flavors such as well-done cabbage rolls with grits, crispy cornmeal pancakes, sausage cooked in wine and apple sauce, and winter pie (if you go during the cold season) will entice gourmet travelers, as well Central European-inspired flavors. Two of them are delicious onion soup and melt-in-your-mouth brownies. And for soup lovers, Bistro de l'Arte is the place to go because it has a large selection.

  6. Once you learn about one of Sibiu's most challenging gastronomic adventures, you'll be on the lookout for Syndicat Gourmet, a hidden bistro on a side street near Big Square. You can submit to a warm sensation far away from the crowded world in the coziness of what seems like a wine cellar, with its red bricks and dark brown wooden beams.

The food is influenced by the two founders' and chefs' travels, which brought back a passion for aromatic diversity, exotic spices, and a love of India. Traditional Romanian cuisine is served here, with fresh ingredients sourced primarily from the local market and boldly recreated with Indian spices.

This fusion produces an odd flavor profile as well as some intriguingly named meals like tarragon lemonade, which is surprisingly tasty and refreshing. Sweet-sour seabuckthorn pie, beetroot brownie, garlic cream soup, beef tongue with mirabelle sauce, and duck breast are among the other dishes recommended by our reviewers. The menu includes vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free alternatives, and the service is prompt and courteous.

  7. In the charming city of Brașov, Dei Frati is the home of excellent homemade pasta. From their training adventure in the mother land of pasta and pizza, the two enthusiastic brothers (and proprietors) have brought the best Italian cuisine here.

But these aren't the only delectable dishes that stand out from the rest of the Italian menu: antipasti, risotto, and tiramisu round out the Mediterranean experience with lingering aromas.

Like the Napar brothers, a skillful cook allows his hands direct the amount of ingredients for the recipe and dough texture. The best tortellini they've ever had, fettuccine with spinach and shrimp, the best carbonara outside of Italy, gorgonzola ravioli with pear butter and sage, and, last but not least, Monte Cimone, a special dessert, are all recommended by our reviewers.

Seafood, Italian, Mediterranean, European, Tuscan, and Central Italian cuisine are all available at Dei Frati. Of course, it's vegetarian-friendly, with vegan and gluten-free options available. Good service adds to the nice environment, and because it is tiny and popular, reservations are recommended.

This "piece of Italy," as some clients describe it, is tastefully designed with wood and stone, and the bathroom is quite spectacular!

  8. While on vacation on the Black Sea coast, Anne Marie Rosenberg noticed a vineyard and farmhouse in disrepair from the window of a bus, with doves circling above.

Without being able to communicate in Romanian, she returned to discover the location, and thus began her grape-growing and gastronomic journey, which continues to delight our senses today. The rustic and modern details in the décor at Clos des Colombes complement each other like well-harmonized colors on paint, much like wine and food do.

The delicate delicacies that nearly generate themselves, neither totally French or Romanian but inspired by both, satisfy Anne Rosenberg's objective of providing an amazing experience to every guest.

Anne Rosenberg is a trained taster who hails from a long line of wine growers, thus the wine list is beautiful. This is how a sampling tour might look: White Terra from 2009 served with shrimp muffins, catfish canapés, and an original Delta flatbread with secret ingredients; a soft Sauvignon from 2010 served with a mini baguette with goat cheese au gratin, prosciutto local asparagus, and soufflé omelet; 2013 Pinot Noir served with crispy chicken wings and flatbread, confit vegetables, and asparagus cream; 2009 Terra Rosa, a blend of Cabernet, Merlot, Black Maiden, and Shiraz, served with turkey lasagna, rice. Desserts like lavender ice cream or cherry clafoutis go well with a 2008 Sauvignon Blanc.

    Privo

The best restaurant in Târgu Mureș, Privo features a well-balanced minimalism and art nouveau décor that creates the ideal ambience for gourmet dining. Seating near huge windows gives you the sense of dining outside, in the sunshine and beneath the shade of the trees. Before you embark on a sensory voyage to France, the United States, or Romania with foods that resemble works of art, the sommelier can tell you about some of the wines he knows so well. The wine cellar features a huge selection of 350 labels that have been carefully selected to complement the food.

Pork tenderloin with roasted onion glaze, mushroom cream soup, French onion soup, New Zealand mutton chop, sea bream with asparagus and rosemary potatoes, Belgian black and white chocolate mousse, and in-house ice cream are among the most popular dishes among reviewers, but there are plenty more to try. When judging restaurants, the Gault and Millau Guide assessors look at the food first, which accounts for 70% of the score, followed by service, atmosphere, design, and price-quality ratio, which account for the remaining 30%.

The chefs were recognized for their authentic voices, which were reflected in the Romanian core taste recipes. We'd love to hear about your Romanian culinary adventures.
