Bontrager Specter WaveCel Helmet
Bontrager, a Wisconsin-based startup (which is now owned by bike manufacturer Trek) promotes its proprietary WaveCel technology via this contemporary Bontrager Specter WaveCel Helmet.
Our independent testing has shown that the design - which collapses on impact - protects the head better than typical foam helmets, especially against head wounds caused by specific bicycle accidents. As with MIPS, the goal is to provide enhanced protection in angled strikes by absorbing rotational energy.
We discovered the Bontrager Specter WaveCel Helmet to be super comfy, although it is noticeably smaller than some of the other best bicycle helmets on our list, granting it a less thick and heavy appearance. However, people with bigger heads should still give it a look; after all, the helmet has the BOA fit system, which utilizes an inside cage of cables for adjustability, and it works nicely. Even better, the Specter's chin strap has a magnetic snap, which makes clasping simpler. While some people like this magnetic latch, you can open and shut any of the standard clicks with one hand as well.
