Carters Lake
In the Gilmer and Murray counties of Georgia's the Blue Ridge Mountains, on the Coosawattee River, sits Carters Lake, a man-made reservoir. The lake is the deepest in the region. A man-made lake without exclusive docks or residences on its bank, Carters Lake is owned by the US Army Corps of Engineers. James Dickey's untamed river, which was controlled by a dam in the book and movie Deliverance, was inspired by the lake.
The deepest lake in Georgia is Carters Lake, another artificial reservoir. It has a surface area of 3,200 acres and is deeper than 450 feet. The Carters Dam, the tallest earthen dam east of the Mississippi River, is also located near the lake.
One of the cleanest lakes in Georgia is Carters Lake, which has very little development along its shore. It is the only Corps of Engineers Lake in the area without fish-eating restrictions since it is so deep and pristine. Except at Dam 2, swimming is not permitted at Carters Lake. Visitors can, however, enjoy boating by bringing their own vessel or by hiring one at the shore. For those who want to continue their fun, the lake also features a private beach and the Carters Marina & Resort.
