Chatuge Lake

One of the bigger open water bodies in the Blue Ridge Smoky Mountains region is Lake Chatuge, which the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) built in the 1940s for utility power and flood control purposes. It has 128 miles of shoreline and an additional 4 miles of island shoreline. Towns County, Georgia, and Clay County, North Carolina state boundaries separate Lake Chatuge in the middle. 3,500 acres of Lake Chatuge are located in Towns County, Georgia, while 3,700 acres are located in Clay County, North Carolina.

Lake Chatuge has all the aesthetics of a man-made wonder, with high mountains enclosing its far-off borders and its pristine alpine waters reflecting the sky's deep blue. The man-made lake, however, has turned this once-remote river valley in the middle North Georgia Mountains into a water paradise for enjoyment, recreation, and beauty, in contrast to its original distinctive environment.

An annual trout fishing competition is held at the lake. Anglers from Georgia and North Carolina are drawn to the entire lake. Additionally, Chatuge Lake has a stunning beach that is ideal for swimming and tanning. Along with these activities, tourists can go rafting, water skiing, and canoeing. The location's nightlife, however, is its main draw. Visitors stay at Lake Chatuge Lodge to take advantage of that and enjoy the surrounding surroundings.
