Detention

Detention is a horror adventure video game produced by Taiwanese game company Red Candle Games for the Steam platform. It is a 2D atmospheric horror side-scroller set in martial law-era Taiwan in the 1960s. Religious aspects based on Taiwanese culture and mythology are also included in the game. On January 13, 2017, the game was launched. On June 13, 2016, a demo version was posted on Steam Greenlight. The game's premise was created by Red Candle Games co-founder Shun-ting "Coffee" Yao. Novelist Ling Jing wrote a novel based on the game in February 2017. On September 20, 2019, Warner Bros. Taiwan released a live-action film adaptation.

Detention is an unusual situation. The game, developed by Taiwanese gaming studio Red Candle Games, is set in 1960s Taiwan during the White Terror, a 38-year era of martial rule and repression of political dissidents. Wei and Ray, two students, are stuck at Greenwood High School and pursued by terrible monsters known as "the lingerers". They must hide from the creatures as they progress through the school, revealing deadly truths along the way.
