Resident Evil (2002)
Resident Evil is a survival horror video game developed and distributed by Capcom Production Studio 4. It is a remake of the 1996 PlayStation game Resident Evil, the first edition in the Resident Evil video game series, and was released in 2002 for the GameCube video game device. The narrative is set in 1998, in the fictional Midwestern town of Raccoon City, where a series of strange murders had occurred. The player assumes the character of Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine, two S.T.A.R.S. agents dispatched by the city to investigate the killings.
Resident Evil was created in one year and two months as part of an exclusive agreement between Capcom and Nintendo. Shinji Mikami, who also designed and directed the first Resident Evil, directed it. Mikami opted to rebuild the game because he believed the original had not aged well enough and that the capabilities of the GameCube might bring it closer to his original concept. The graphical appearance remains the same, with 3D models placed over pre-rendered backdrops. However, the visual quality has considerably increased. In addition, the remake includes new gaming mechanics, reworked puzzles, more explorable regions, a revamped screenplay, and more story elements, including an entire subplot removed from the original game.
