Edessa Waterfalls

The beautiful waterfalls of Edessa, which are around two hours away from Thessaloniki, have only been reachable since the 1940s. Back then, getting to the heavenly location was impossible due to the surrounding steep cliffs, but today you may get there by taking stairs.

The largest waterfall in Greece, Karanos Waterfall, is one of these and is up to 70 meters high. The nearby twin Lamda waterfalls are also reachable by descending several stairs.

The waterfalls in Edessa are quite remarkable. People built a basin for their water supply centuries ago, but in the 14th century, the river changed its path and produced multiple minor waterfalls, starting with one. Several of the waterfalls are still visible today from a higher vantage point.

A beautiful park area with plenty of seating areas and gorgeous landscaping surrounds the waterfalls. Don't pass up the 1-Euro cave trip that is located behind the waterfall. Additionally, there are eateries where you may enjoy a meal or beverage while taking in the breathtaking scenery.
