Externity Memorial Complex

Externity Monument Complex is a historical monument that has become one of Chisinau's most popular tourist attractions. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Soviet victory in World War II, this memorial was dedicated to Soviet soldiers who perished in the Great Patriotic War, which was fought against German-Romanian troops during the Second World War. The complex was known as the Victory Monument during the Soviet era. The Pyramid of Peace, specifically Chisinau, but Moldova in general, is the monument's emblem.

The memorial's centerpiece is a pyramid of five 25-meter-tall stone weapons. At the heart of the monument is a 5-pointed star with an everlasting flame. The monument is guarded by a Moldovan Army honor guard that changes guards every hour. During national holidays, wreath-laying rituals are performed at the memorial's heart. The Central Bank of Russia produced a five-ruble coin from the series "Cities — capitals of states rescued by Soviet soldiers from Nazi invaders" on August 1, 2016. In 2006, on the 62nd anniversary of the Second Jassy-Kishinev Offensive, the monument was refurbished. During national holidays, a wreath-laying ceremony is place at the memorial's center.
