Triumphal Arch
Chisinau's city center has many locations to see, particularly the distinctive monuments and attractive parks. The Triumphal Arch, on the other hand, draws the attention of any tourist that decides to visit our city. This monument, located in Chisinau's centre plaza, has become a symbol of victory. "The Arch of Victory" is another name for the Triumphal Arch. The Triumphal Arch in Chisinau was built to commemorate Russian forces' victory over the Turkish army during the 1806-1812 conflict.
The building is 13 meters tall, has a typical square style, and is clearly divided into two stages. The structure's lowest tier is comprised of four sturdy pylons ornately adorned with typical Corinthian columns, providing it a royal air. On the side is a wonderful clock that chimes every fifteen minutes. The Arch is well-known for its unique history, in addition to its architectural value. After the Russians vanquished the Turks in 1829, Tsar Nikolai I, one of the most prominent military heroes, approved the manufacturing of bells from seized Turkish canons. Sadly, the bells were too enormous for the Arch, prompting the building of a neighbouring second belfry.
There are three bells on the second floor of the building, but you can readily spot enormous and gorgeous clocks in front of it. The presence of the timepieces on the arch is the subject of an intriguing narrative. The first clock, imported from Odessa, emerged in 1842. The mechanism itself broke after seven years and was replaced by a new one from Austria. The revised hours were in effect until the outbreak of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War. They are still positioned atop the Triumphal Arch today, elegant and in order, completing the monument's ensemble.
